Working in Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) in the Northern Territory
The AOD sector supports individuals, families and communities across the Northern Territory affected by alcohol and other drug use. Services range from outreach and early intervention through to residential rehabilitation, counselling, case management and clinical treatment.
AOD workers make a direct, tangible difference, supporting people toward safer, healthier lives, and working alongside communities, families and other services including mental health, housing and justice.
The NT AOD workforce is diverse, spanning urban, regional and remote settings, and includes a significant and highly valued Aboriginal community-controlled workforce.

What qualifications & training are required?
Common qualifications include the Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs and related diplomas, alongside qualifications in community services, mental health, counselling or social work.

What are the pay & conditions?
Most AOD roles in the NT are covered by the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Award, which sets minimum classifications, pay rates and conditions for the sector.
