ABOUT THE PROGRAM
LAUNCH Night Series is a free social inclusion basketball program open to young people aged between 12 -18 years who reside in the Darwin area. In addition to competitive basketball games, players enjoy a meal with their teammates as well as being transported safely home at the end of the evening. Each night of the tournament players also participate in a life-skills workshop on topics including health and well-being, respectful relationships, communication and employability skills.
LAUNCH Night Series runs on Saturday nights for seven weeks at Darwin Basketball Stadium (DBA) in Marrara. The program is led by a committee of community volunteers and is supported and managed by City of Darwin. LAUNCH Night Series aims to –
- Provide young people with a safe, healthy and positive environment on Saturday nights when they may be vulnerable to harmful and anti-social behaviour;
- Support young people to connect with and participate in positive activities in their local community;
- Provide healthy role models and build positive self-regard in young people;
- Divert young people in areas of need from the risks associated with unhealthy behaviours.
Registrations are now open for players and crew (volunteers and paid workers) for Tournament 1, commencing Saturday 12 May, 2018.
Some of the available roles include coaches and assistant coaches, scorers, registration supervisors, bus drivers, catering assistants, referees, security and more.
Please note, all volunteers and paid workers will need a current Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).
